BOOK REVIEW: REVELATIONS ALPHA AND OMEGA by David
Rigsby. iUniverse. 2002. 504 pp. $24.95. David Allen Rigsby brings his
background in TV and film to this original, powerful, and provocative work
on the close inter-relation between the Bible and history. "Revelations,
Alpha and Omega" is written largely in the form of a screenplay--which
makes it like an epic in form. The story moves freely through space and
time--from the ancient Near East to the skies over Nazi Germany in World
War II to the Garden of Eden to the future bearing down on Humankind. In
this scope as wide as his knowledge and imagination, Rigsby keeps the
focus on his central interest of the activity of Satan in the course of history
and how this affects the nature of human affairs and influences what is to
come. Rigsby's interpretation of the Bible after years of study is that Satan
is at work in human affairs to forestall the end of time when he will be held
accountable for his disobedience to God and part in the loss of Eden for
Humankind. Rigsby's interpretation casts a light on human affairs which is
both timeless and timely. This interpretation not only has a religious,
mythic, and ethical dimension, but also speaks to the latest terrorist events
in today's inter-connected world. With its blending of religious fable and
realism, hopes and fears, purity and evil, "Revelations, Alpha and Omega"
is a captivating tale. It gives the reader a sharpened perspective on today's
global events while awakening dormant moral instincts. In essay-like parts
preceding and following the screenplay, Rigsby discusses the sources of his
ideas reflected in it.
